The Oban fish and chip shop is a popular take-away and 40 seater restaurant with locals and tourists alike. In fact we find that people who visit Oban frequently always come back to our shop; sometimes for the duration of their stay.
Fish is cooked to order in rapeseed oil and you can choose from Haddock, Cod or local Sole(when available). Our Haddock and Cod comes from sustainable fishing grounds in the Barrents sea where it is filleted and frozen within 5 hours of being caught to ensure high quality. We sell other types of fish from our specials board, such as trout and salmon; including a variety of shellfish supplied to us by our local fishmonger "Willie Fish".
Our restaurant menu offers so much more than fish and chips. You can choose from our selection of homemade meals such as steak pie baked to order and made from the best shoulder steak and fresh thyme. " Grant's of Taynuilt" kindly supply us with all our butcher meat. We've even had Italian tourists tell us that our lasagne was excellent. Owner Lilian's restaurant specials sell so well that she is reluctant to change them too often. A sample of what might be available includes Tempura cod with salsa and salad, Sole mornay, Pan fried whole trout or mackeral, Smoked Haddock, Mussels Mariniere and fish pie.
Our potatoes and vegetables are bought mainly from the local potato merchant "Breckenridge".
